Why seek help now?
Do you have a teenager at home who appears to be struggling? Are they moody, stressed out, and/or crying frequently? Maybe they are getting into conflicts with friends and family, having angry outbursts, isolating, or neglecting their self-care. Perhaps their school or others have expressed concern about their academics or behavior. Or maybe, YOU are a teen or young adult experiencing one or more of these. If you've tried everything you can think of and nothing has helped, or even seemed to make things worse, perhaps it's time to talk to someone.
Dealing with emotional issues can be frustrating but making the decision to seek help may be the beginning of turning things around. Engaging in therapy can help develop or increase your understanding of what's going on and help foster harmony in your life and in the family.
Finding the “right fit” in a therapist isn’t easy. You’re looking for someone who is knowledgeable and experienced in adolescent development and issues, while also being caring and supportive. It would be so reassuring to find someone who you and or your teen will be comfortable with and open up to, not to mention a relief if it could truly help!
WHO AM I?
I am a therapist committed to helping teens navigate issues that can interfere in or interrupt their lives. I help them learn how to deal with the struggles they face, in ways that are safe and effective. My work focuses on targeting the experiences that have negatively impacted thoughts, emotions, and actions, and assist with identifying strengths from within them, as well as strategies and techniques, that can be maximized to improve their day-to-day living, their relationships, and their future.
It’s important to point out that, although I mostly see people individually, I don’t see them in a bubble. I believe in taking a collaborative approach with parents and family members who know the teen best. At times, family sessions are useful to address conflicts that may arise, or to work on improving communication. I enjoy helping family members better understand one another and support the teen. I also recognize the challenges of parenting that can come with having a teenager at home.
You're probably wondering about my education and background. I am a New Jersey State-Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 20 years of experience working with teenagers, parents, and families, providing individual, group, and family therapy. I have a Master of Social Work degree from Fordham University and a Post Master Certificate in Clinical Practice with Adolescents from NYU. Most importantly, I love helping teens and I believe I can help your teen!
